Another Irish Gin Brand and Whiskey Brand is due to hit the market soon, themed around Skellig Island and the Ring of Kerry.
The new drinks will fall under the ‘Skellig six18’ brand name, and the new investors hope the beverages will also be supported by a complete brand visitor experience.
A new €10m micro-distillery is being established looking out onto the Atlantic ocean and the backers of the new brands hope the facility will also become a major tourist attraction.
It is not clear if any of the backers have a any experience in the drinks industry, but we are fairly confident they will have done their homework before investing such a sizable sum.
Media reports suggest the distillery founders have already ploughed €1.25 million of their own money into Skellig six18 and are now looking to raise €3 million under the Employment & Investment Incentive Scheme for the whiskey plant, which is expected to be ordered early in 2020 and in situ by the end of that year.
We hope the backers spend plenty of their investment in ensuring the new drinks products are of a very high standard, as there is no point having a major tourist attraction and the product not leading the other elements of the new brand.
The owners have suggested in the media that they will get 100,000 visitors in the next 5 years – we would personally be more interested in the World Wide Whiskey market, which is expected to be $84 billion by 2025.
All the same, we raise a glass to this new venture and look forward to sampling it.
