Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland gets their tools out to promote the teaching of medicine…

Telling stories is always a winner when it comes to marketing the more obscure things in life, and the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) in Ireland has taken that to another level by sharing the fascinating, interesting and potentially gruesome advances in healthcare via a digital online publication of ‘Instruments and Innovations’.

The RCSI collection is visual history of medical progress through the last 235 years highlighted with the display of a selection of objects and medical tools used in surgery during the 19th and 20th Century Ireland.

They all come with their own unique story too…reports suggest it only took a swig of brandy for the operator to get going….for the patient of course.

Well done to the RCSI for getting their medical tools out to help inspire others to appreciate the advances in medicine.

The RCSI digital publication is available to view for free online at the RCSI Digital Heritage Collection website.

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland is running free tours of the college twice a day with access to some of the archival exhibitions from 19 August to 21 August during National Heritage Week.
