Leading travel journalists from the US, Germany, Italy, Belgium, India and New Zealand have been enjoying a busy few days exploring Northern Ireland and learning all about our connection with Game of Thrones. The group, whose combined followers and readers number over 3.75 million, was invited here by Tourism Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism NI.
The journalists began their Game of Thrones adventure with a visit to the TV show’s touring exhibition at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in Belfast. They continued to the Ulster Museum, to see Tourism Ireland’s spectacular Game of Thrones tapestry.
The next day saw the group head along the Causeway Coastal Route and take in some of our Game of Thrones filming locations – such as Carnlough, Cushendun Caves, Ballintoy and the Dark Hedges. They also enjoyed a Game of Thrones themed sea safari along the Causeway Coast, where they saw some of the filming locations from the sea. In Co Down, they enjoyed an immersive Games of Thrones tour, which included visits to Castle Ward, Inch Abbey and The Cuan.
Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets, said: “The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones aired this spring and, once again, we’ve been taking every opportunity to highlight Northern Ireland as the ‘Home of Thrones’ to fans around the world. The visit by these top international travel writers is an excellent opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland to a wide audience of fans and prospective holidaymakers. Their articles, posts and photos will be seen and shared by their readers and online followers – inspiring them to come and explore Northern Ireland for themselves.
“Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of Northern Ireland – and visits by journalists and social influencers are a key element of that programme.”
